I Climbed a Mountain!

Okay, it's not really a mountain. It's a hill that overlooks the laguna near my house. I asked my boys to go with me (2 of my old students from Nejapa) and their mom came too. Now other people in their family want to go with us next weekend to climb down into the laguna.



 The view from the top was worth all the pain of climbing.

 I've gone to the beach several times lately. I never can pass up an opportunity to visit my favorite place! It's a nice break from school too. Today we took Billy with us (he's living with a couple from NCA who are hoping to adopt him). Today was his first time to see the ocean. It was a little scary for him, but he had fun.

Things are going fine here. I'm still praying about my future in Nicaragua. I'm still not sure about the teaching thing. I don't feel like I'm really involved in the Nicaraguan culture right now either. I just pray that God will use me here and now in whatever way he wants.

My Last Post Before Christmas

Hi everyone. This will probably be my last post before I leave for Christmas break on December 16th. I will be home for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm so excited! I'm looking forward to a break. Things here are going well. Over the weekend I went to a beach south of Managua. I was able to watch a sea turtle lay eggs. It was a once in a lifetime experience. In January the eggs will be hatching, so I may go back to see that. This weekend I also went to an orphanage about 30 minutes from my house. The name of the orphanage is House of Hope. I have visited there several times. There are 12 children that live in the home and 5 little ones there that need lots of love and care. The children are Miskito and are from the Atlantic coast. I think they will be tri-lingual kids...speaking Miskito, Spanish and English. They are precious. The woman who runs the home has gone to the Atlantic coast this week to bring 2 more children back. One month down...

I have been back in Nicaragua for one month already. School has been going well. It is going so much better than this time last year. The kids are excited about my class and have had really good behavior! I am so thankful to be able to teach a lot of the same kids I had last year. It is great to continue those relationships with students and see their progress. Many of them will soon be leaving me...their English is continually improving and they will soon be graduating from the ESL program. It's a bittersweet feeling, but I'm very proud of them. I have a very busy schedule this year. I don't have alot of planning time, and I am tutoring and teaching English after school as well. I feel like I'm giving and teaching all day, without much of a break, and by the end of the day I'm sick of hearing myself talk and I'm sick of English!! God has Given me Love

I work at Nicaragua Christian Academy, a private Christian school made up mostly of children from wealthy families. In the past I have struggled with working with these children...the "Haves" of society. My heart has always been for the broken, the poor and neglected. Recently I have asked God to show me the spiritual poverty of the students I teach. Many of these children have their physical needs met, but their souls are crying out for love and affection. God has opened up my eyes to see the reality of these children's lives. He has given me compassion and love for them. I am truly blessed. I have a desire to lay down my life for these children, to love them with God's love...for His glory. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. John 15:13
